I’ve Set Myself a Challenge!

I’ve been dabbling in various art forms recently, some of which I’ve put on this blog and others not. But I’ve felt a little dissatisfied with the amount of my usual sketching I’ve been doing — which is very little. I was going to go out and sketch today, for example, as it’s a beautiful day for it. But Venetia and I are going to an early concert this evening, so there wasn’t much time.

However, I watched some YouTube videos by other sketchers and they made me realize I don’t always have to “go out sketching”, as there are things to draw all around if you just look. So I set myself a challenge to do one sketch every day for a month and see what happens.

I have a small sketchbook that fits in my bag—about 4″ x 6″ I think—and that’s what I’m going to use. I always have it with me in my bag, so there should be a nice variety of subjects. Since I decided not to go out this afternoon, I had to pick something in my home, so here is Daily Sketch #1.

It’s a line drawing of the three big poster size photographs I wrote about when I put them up. They were taken by my friends Susan and Venetia and my brother Bruce, and the subjects represent my three countries. I love the photos and look at them often, so I enjoyed doing the drawing.

I won’t subject you to every day’s drawing, but I did want to record the first so that I am more likely to meet my own challenge. What do you think of my idea? Maybe you’d like to join me!
